I am a reading mom, always ready to dive into some more Parenting Continuing Education (PCE). I read tons of pregnancy and childcare books before having Gabriel, and am in the middle of three or four parenting books right now. Reading books has been great for preparing for and getting through my first steps of motherhood! I know handy tidbits about things like sleep cycles, breastfeeding technique, baby acne, proper burping and overstimulation cues.
My latest book, “Secrets of the Baby Whisperer,” has some pretty neat stuff in it. One of my favorite parts so far is how it helps you determine your baby’s “baby personality” so that you can learn how to interpret his/her cries more accurately.
The author has a little 20-question quiz in it to help you start figuring out your baby’s disposition, and she urges both parents to take the test separately to get the most accurate idea.
Sometimes, Michael is not as enthusiastic about PCE, and of course that’s OK :). Here was the short exchange that ensued between my husband and I this evening when I asked him to participate in this PCE activity.
(Me) “Michael, this book is so neat! It helps you figure out your baby’s personality!”
(Michael) “I already know what kind of personality Gabriel has–a good one.”
I guess I learned my lesson tonight. I happened to throw my quiz request at him while he was in the middle of watching the Matrix. Smart move, Erin.
I’ll just get him to take the quiz tomorrow after I make him his favorite blueberry muffins for breakfast…
