There are saints and angels among us here in Houston right now: A new saint in Heaven, and many angels appearing all around us.
In my previous post, I again mentioned my friend Lucy Coles and her family. In our short two years in Houston, God has used the Coles family to bless and inspire Michael and me in many, many ways.
Last night, Lucy lost her husband, Matt, after a (literally) miraculous four-year battle with a rare lung cancer that metasticized into tumors all over his body. Matt and Lucy were given a 6-months-to-live diagnosis two weeks before their wedding in 2006, and they have an amazing story. Matt was 27 years old, and he and Lucy just welcomed their third child, Andrew Damien, on Thanksgiving day.
Michael and I are devastated beyond words for Lucy and for the boys. As I told a close family friend of the Coles this afternoon, I’m so sorry and so sad…plus a thousand words.
Thank all of you for your prayers for this family, especially for Lucy. Again, a thousand words for what she is going through now and what she faces in the coming weeks, months and years with raising and providing for three beautiful little boys on her own.
There is a holy new saint in Heaven today, and there are angels revealing themselves here in Houston as Matt and Lucy’s friends and family pour out love and material help on Lucy and the boys. Michael and have opened our home for the past two nights to fellow grieving friends.
Matt, pray for us.
