Our friend Matt’s funeral was yesterday, and it was a beautiful and moving experience.

Matt was a living saint, of that I am more and more sure. Ten thousand words and many, many blog posts wouldn’t do him justice. πŸ™‚

Lucy chose to share something from Matt’s personal writings in the program for his wake and funeral. She shared with us Matt’s literal “plan for life,” which he (a fluent French speaker) called “Vivre d’Amour.” Matt’s plan called for him to give every ounce of himself over to serving Christ and to serving his family as it glorified Christ.

All of us who have spent Thursday evening after Thursday evening, week after week at Family Dinner this last year and a half can attest in a heartbeat to Matt’s having lived out his plan until the end. Never have any of us seen such a strong and faithful example of loving God with all of one’s heart, mind, soul and strength!

Vivre d’Amour
To live your life, O Christ – here, now, and with my whole being.
To give every one of my days to you, and with each of my actions to live in Your presence.
To put others before myself – and to give myself for them.
To focus on taking care of myself only insofar as it is an act of love towards you, Lord and towards others – especially Lucy and our family.
To love without measure and without fear.
To be misunderstood by this world, and to love you all the more!

Hi there!

I'm a south Louisiana girl, Catholic wife, writer, speaker, and mother of six. Since I started my blog way back in 2009, life has been a roller coaster of babies, plot twists and a plane crash or two. I've been chronicling things here as I've been learning to love and suffer and laugh and trust in the goodness of God in the ordinary and the extraordinary--with a little espresso and a lot of Divine Mercy.
