Rough Day, Nice Day

Wednesday was a rough day.

On Tuesday, Gabriel had been diagnosed with double ear infections and wheezing from his cough/allergies.

On Wednesday, he was sick and cried all day long and I performed pretty poorly for my job as a result (and got told so, nicely). Also, I had to go to the dentist at the end of the day and have two fillings done. By the end of the day, as I lisped to Michael that I needed a hug and some Ibuprofen (my mouth was still numb, but the less numb it got, the more pain I felt), I was feeling pretty sorry for myself!

After dinner, being the thoughtful man he is, Michael picked up a little something besides Ibuprofen at Walgreens: Blue Bell Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream pints! My favorites. I think I teared up I was so excited.

When I have a rough day, I often develop a huge sweet tooth after dinner. That day, I was even more depressed because I couldn’t find any sugar in the house whatsoever. (I don’t keep any junk in the house because neither of us have the self-control to have it around and not stuff ourselves.)

Thursday was much better–much nicer, actually.

Gabriel was feeling better and started taking his normal naps again. I was able to get a lot of catch-up work done for my job. Gabriel and I spent some quality time together playing outside, folding laundry and taking an afternoon cat nap together in the guest room.

Also, we had Family Dinner last night, and it was a blast. There were people and babies everywhere, great food and good conversations. One couple is scheduled to have their first child on Saturday (they’re being induced if nature doesn’t take its course before then) and another couple who recently got married had their last night at Family Dinner (they’re moving to Dallas and are already pregnant also, which is exciting!) It was great to finally get out of the house and see my friends.

Gabriel loved every second of being outdoors. He didn’t even need any toys. Just listening to the birds and airplanes and bugs was enough fun for him!
My beautiful backyard 🙂
The play set came with the house. It needs quite a lot of fixing up and maybe a new paint job I think.

Hi there!

I'm a south Louisiana girl, Catholic wife, writer, speaker, and mother of six. Since I started my blog way back in 2009, life has been a roller coaster of babies, plot twists and a plane crash or two. I've been chronicling things here as I've been learning to love and suffer and laugh and trust in the goodness of God in the ordinary and the extraordinary--with a little espresso and a lot of Divine Mercy.
