Minty fresh trouble

Just this morning my little 10-month-old figured out how to do two things: crawl and open “childproof” caps.

Exciting, but oh so disturbing at the same time.

I was taking a shower while Gabriel played with an assortment of bathroom objects on the floor of my bathroom. All of a sudden, he started crawling everywhere. He hasn’t crawling more than three or maybe four steps in his life, and all of a sudden he was in a completely different corner of the room every few seconds!

I cut my shower shower a bit short and hopped out. It took me about ten seconds, though, before I realized that he had taken off the top of the big mouthwash bottle I usually let him play with, and it had spilled all over the floor and all over him.

It was another one of those times when you want to get irritated, but can’t keep a grin off your face because you’re thinking, “My little boy is starting to get into real trouble! This will be sort of a pain to clean up, BUT what progress! How exciting! Yesterday he was just a helpless little infant and now…”

And now Gabriel and my bathroom smell minty fresh and clean. Life is good.

I've been chronicling things here as I've been learning to love and suffer and laugh and trust in the goodness of God in the ordinary and the extraordinary--with a little espresso and a lot of Divine Mercy.
