I’ve been learning to sail.

I was tired of waiting for good weather and calm waters.

It’s hard work. I get wet and weary and discouraged. The skills of virtue needed to sail straight and true in choppy waters are tough to learn. At times the sky seems like it will be dark forever, and the howling winds of passing storms confuse me.

And I have no idea where I’m going, exactly.

I just know that God is with me, and that He has good things in store for me. And I know I have a beautiful, solid boat full of the rich blessings of faith, family, friends, and immediate material needs that are fully and generously met.

I was once in a place where I hid below deck and tried to wait everything out. By the grace of God I ventured back out, and I’m learning to be thankful even for this boat, this journey, and for the joy of the Lord that is my strength.
